Heirlooms
What is an Heirloom?
An Heirloom Vegetable is an old variety, one that dates back for
more than 50 years, is non hybrid, and is usually not a standard mass
produced commercial variety. The best info I have found explaining
heirlooms in details is located here

We only grow Heirloom and open pollinated seeds-
Modern Agriculture has taken a turn towards Monoculture (the
growth of a single type and strain of organism exclusively).  Most
"commercially viable" crops are down to one or two strains being
mass produced.  More than anything these super hybrids are bred for
increasingly long shelf lives, and uniformity of size and harvest time.
There has been almost no consideration for taste, or nutritional value.
Because we serve local markets exclusively, we are not concerned
with our produce having rediculously long shelf lives.  Our customers
receive fresh ripe produce, and are rewarded with amazing flavor and
quality.  We grow heirlooms because of their creative strong genetics,
many varieties are far superior in taste to commercially produced
equivalents, and to preserve the gene pool for future generations.
The Slow Food Movement-The slow food movement, is a counter
to the fast food movement.  They are a great organization focused on
the enjoyment and well being that is brought from quality foods.
They are big advocates for heirloom plants and heritage livestock
breeds.  They have a rating system called the "Ark of taste" that they
assign to things that are pretty much the tastiest most wonderful
strains and breeds of plants and meats ever grown/cultivated.  We are
growing many of the foods which have been bestowed with their high
rating.  Their website is highly recommended
